[Kan-ed_members] Kansas Distance Learning Week

I am pleased to advise you of the opportunity to observe a series of distance learning events onTuesday, March 11, focused on Emergency Preparedness Week and Kansas Distance Learning Week. The events center on the disaster in Greensburg, Kansas, where a tornado nearly wiped out a small Kansas community. These events will be available by video via both the commodity Internet and Internet2.
Classrooms from the region (Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas and North Dakota) will be participating, live, in the events. You can observe them via a live video stream (see below). The regional collaboration is a partnership of state networks affiliated by membership in Internet2: Kan-ed, KanREN, MOREnet of Missouri, EduTech of North Dakota, ONEnet of Oklahoma and the Great PlainsNetwork. The event is planned and organized by theKansas Association for Interactive Distance Education (KAIDE).

Session: Lessons from Greensburg Elementary Focus-Presentation on Emergency Preparedness by Supt. Darin Headrick with before and after pictures of the community and school grounds. Q & A for the final segment.

Session: Lessons from Greensburg High School/Middle School Focus-Presentation on Emergency Preparedness by Supt. Darin Headrick with before and after pictures of the community and school grounds. Q & A for the final segment.
Time: 11 AM - 12 NoonCentral
Jason Project-Operation: Monster Storms Learn more about this nine-week curriculum unit on weather. Designed for Middle School classes and adaptable to other grades, this project covers standards for Physical Science Earth Science, and Science and Personal Social Perspectives.
Time: 1:00-2:00 PM

Time: 2:15-3:15 PM Central
Dr. Kevin Kloesel, a National Weather Service meteorologist from the University of Oklahoma, will discuss how storm warnings are issued and the differences between warnings and advisories.
